Practise everyday English intensively twice a week

If you would like to improve your English fast, we recommend one of our intensive courses. You can quickly broaden your vocabulary and improve your spoken English significantly. On this intensive course, you will become more fluent when speaking to new people.

This could be when having conversations about:

  • Where you live

  • How you feel

  • Your daily life

  • Jobs and professions

  • Global issues

You will also learn language that will help you handle practical everyday situations such as asking for directions, making arrangements, giving advice, checking into a hotel or expressing and responding to opinions.

The primary focus is that you become better at speaking English, but you will also be given some short written assignments for homework. Most lessons will also involve studying some grammar to give you a framework on which to build the language.

The course focuses on all the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary.

As we will be meeting twice a week and there will also be homework, you will be practising your English nearly every day, which means you will get into a totally different rhythm than if you had only been going to English classes once per week.

On the course, you will typically meet students who need to improve their English because they have recently got a new job, or students who need to improve their English quickly so they can perform well in their current job.

Preparation time: approx. 1-2 hours.

Teaching material
Navigate Pre-Intermediate B1 Coursebook with DVD and Oxford Online Skills (Oxford University Press), ISBN 9780194566490. We will study selected pages. You should buy the book before the start of the course. You can either buy the book online at www.academicbooks.dk or at their shop:
Academic Books
Øster Farimagsgade 5 A
1353 København K
The book includes access to an online skills programme and CD for self-study outside the classroom. In addition, the book can be projected onto the whiteboard so you and the other students will typically follow the teaching there as well as looking in your own book.

The Moodle learning platform
Moodle is Studieskolen's online course platform, which we use for all our courses. You will be given personal access to your course Moodle page, where you can:

  • Find your course plan and teaching material

  • Find homework

  • Watch videos and click on links to useful English resources on the Internet uploaded by your teacher

  • Find practical information about each lesson

  • Communicate with your teacher and fellow students

If you are ill or absent during the course, you can always follow the teaching and catch up via Moodle.

Note! We expect that we can run the course as normal classroom instruction. However, we always follow the authorities' recommendations. Therefore, in August we will take stock of the situation and make any necessary adjustments to the courses. For example, in relation to how many students can sit in a room or whether or not we need to change a course to online teaching and the like.

Ben Galvin

Ben is a TESOL qualified teacher with a strong business background gained in the telecoms and insurance industries. He is a qualified telecoms engineer and has worked on some interesting and unusual projects in his telecoms career. Ben is from West Yorkshire in the north of England and is a keen hiker. Living so close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park gave him the chance to walk in some of England’s most beautiful countryside.

Ben moved to Denmark and began teaching a year ago and he really enjoys watching his students develop their English skills and seeing their confidence grow. He loves meeting people from all over the world and learning about different cultures.

Ben recommends:
Food & drink: a homemade steak and ale pie and a pint of Black Sheep bitter in a cosy Dales pub, especially good after a long day’s hiking!
Places to visit: The beautiful and historic city of York, the modern and vibrant city of Leeds and the idyllic village of Kettlewell.
Learning tips: Watch English television and listen to English radio, it’s a great way to learn from native speakers. Never be afraid to speak, it doesn’t matter if you make mistakes.
