Practise your competent English intensively twice a week

If you would like to improve your English fast, we recommend one of our intensive courses. You can quickly broaden your vocabulary and improve your spoken English significantly. On this intensive course, you will become more fluent when having discussions with friends or work colleagues.

This could be in-depth conversations about more abstract or complex issues such as:

  • Crime and justice

  • Travel and adventure

  • Different cultures and communities

  • Emotions and behaviour

  • The news

You will also learn language that will help you handle specific more advanced practical situations such as: retelling a news story, reflecting on life events and choices, starting a conversation with a stranger, telling and reacting to a story or agreeing and disagreeing politely.

The primary focus is that you become better at speaking English, but you will also be given written assignments for homework. Most lessons will also involve studying some grammar to ensure that your English is as accurate as possible.

The course focuses on all the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary.

As we will be meeting twice a week and there will also be homework, you will be practising your English nearly every day, which means you will get into a totally different rhythm than if you had only been going to English classes once per week.

On the course, you will typically meet students who need to improve their English because they have recently got a new job, or students who need to improve their English quickly so they can perform well in their current job.

Preparation time: approx. 1-2 hours.

Teaching material
Navigate Upper-Intermediate, Student's book, 2016 (Oxford University Press), ISBN 9780194565837. We will study selected pages. You should buy the book before the start of the course. You can either buy the book online at www.academicbooks.dk or at their shop:
Academic Books
Øster Farimagsgade 5 A
1353 København K
The book includes access to an online skills programme and CD for self-study outside the classroom. In addition, the book can be projected onto the whiteboard so you and the other students will typically follow the teaching there as well as looking in your own book.

The Moodle learning platform
Moodle is Studieskolen's online course platform, which we use for all our courses. You will be given personal access to your course Moodle page, where you can:

  • Find your course plan and teaching material

  • Find homework

  • Watch videos and click on links to useful English resources on the Internet uploaded by your teacher

  • Find practical information about each lesson

  • Communicate with your teacher and fellow students

  • Follow the teaching and catch up if you are ill or absent during the course

Note! We expect that we can run the course as normal classroom instruction. However, we always follow the authorities' recommendations. Therefore, in August we will take stock of the situation and make any necessary adjustments to the courses. For example, in relation to how many students can sit in a room or whether or not we need to change a course to online teaching and the like.

Diana Elvie Christensen

Diana Elvie Christensen har et CELTA-certifikat, og hun underviser meget i Business English. Hun er født i Jamaica og flyttede senere til USA. Hun har boet i Danmark siden 1990.
"What I love about teaching English is that I enjoy being a mentor, a motivator and the biggest cheerleader for my students. I believe that every student has potential and my job is to exploit that potential in a stimulating, creative and fun environment".

Diana anbefaler:
Food and drink: Chill out at Rick's cafe in Negril, Jamaica with a Pina Colada spiked with Jamaican rum or a cool Red Stripe beer and some seafood!
Places to visit: Jamaica - Reach Falls, Port Antonio; Negril Beach (7 miles/11km of pure white sand bordering turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea!)
U.S.A. - Yosemite National Park, California(see the sequoia trees); Nappa Valley, California.
Cultural events: Classical music concerts in Central park and Rock music concerts on Jones Beach,New York, July and August
Learning tips: Read a good book every 3 months and a well written newspaper like the Guardian/U.S.A Today every day.
Literature: My all time favourite is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. There is nothing like an intellectual fight between a man and a woman!
