Studieskolen's Danish courses are divided into six levels. The levels correspond to the modules you find in the Danish education programme and with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Each level is divided into two courses - you must take both courses to complete a level.
You can see what you will learn in each level below:
LEVEL 1
You will learn to speak and understand Danish in simple daily situations
You will learn f.ex:
- To describe yourself
- To ask about others
- To read very simple texts about subjects you are already familiar with
- To write very simple sentences
- To count, tell time, name the days of the week, etc.
- Danish pronunciation
- A bit about Danish culture and society
You will work with subjects such as:
- Work and education
- Daily life (f.ex. family, daily activities and routines, leisure time, transportation and meals)
- Home, types of housing, and interior decoration
Level 1 is the equivalent of level A1 in The European Framework for Languages.
LEVEL 2
You will learn Danish in more detail. You will learn to understand and communicate in simple Danish about normal, everyday things.
Conversations in Level 2 will be about things like:
- work, education and job opportunities
- housing
- transport
- leisure time, music, books, summer holiday plans and travel
- food and meals
You will learn how to build sentences in Danish, and you will learn to write a short, personal email. We will also read short texts about everyday subjects.
We will continue our focus on proper pronunciation.
Level 2 is the equivalent of level A2 in The European Framework for Languages.
LEVEL 3
We will practise both verbal and written Danish with subjects such as sports, housing, health, volunteer work and expectations in the workplace and in daily Danish life.
We will continue working with present, past and future tenses, and you will learn how adjectives work in Danish. You will also learn to describe experiences you have had yourself.
When you have completed Level 3, you will be able to read short newspaper articles in Danish.
Level 3 is the equivalent of level A2/B1 in The European Framework for Languages.
LEVEL 4
In level 4, you will learn to express yourself more freely in Danish.
You will learn to express your own opinion on different subjects such as traditions, equality, personal attributes, school and education, music, the labour market and the environment.
We will work with short opinion pieces.
We will work with more complex sentences, but we will still focus on correct grammar.
Level 4 is the equivalent of level B1 in The European Framework for Languages.
LEVEL 5
We will read current texts, such as newspaper articles, and use short television programmes in our listening exercises.
We will discuss subjects related to health, the welfare state, politics, the globalised labour market and cultural events.
You will learn to give a short speech on a subject you are familiar with.
We will prepare for the Examination in Danish 3 (Prøve i Dansk 3) with reading and writing exercises and oral presentations.
Level 5 is the equivalent of level B2 in The European Framework for Languages.
LEVEL 6
Level 6 is for those of you who are planning on applying to an institute of higher learning or perhaps just want to be able to express yourself on a more equal footing with your well-educated Danish colleagues.
We will work with academic Danish, and you will acquire a wide and nuanced vocabulary.
We will read texts about current events and scientific subjects. This might be, f.ex, green technology, news coverage, the changing labour market, activism and democracy – and much else besides.
We will focus on polishing your Danish so that it is very correct, both when you speak and write.
This level focuses on preparing you for The Preparatory Exam in Higher Education (Studieprøven).
Level 6 is the equivalent of level C1 in The European Framework for Languages.
