Anders Carlsberg

We have asked our teachers to recommend a place, some Danish music or a Danish artist. It could also be a building or a street. This is what Anders recommends.

Your favorite place in Copenhagen
"I live next to the community house ‘Folkehuset Absalon’ in Vesterbro and I use it a lot. It used to be a church. Now it's the place to bring together people of all ages; infants, retired people, and those in between. You can bring your friends and family, attend fun events, or just relax with a cup of coffee and a book. I think it's a brilliant idea and I am very grateful to the founder and the other people behind this place."

Your favorite music
"Minds of 99 is one of the Danish bands that I primarily listen to these days. They use the Danish language in a beautiful way, especially in a song like 'It is Knud who has died', where they borrowed a poem by Tom Kristensen and put their music and their sound to it. It has become a very unique and powerful song. They are good at words, moods, and sounds, of course they are best playing live, but in the headphones, on a bike ride through Copenhagen, they also do extremely well."

Is there a building or a park that you are particularly fond of in Copenhagen?
"Copenhagen is full of water and recreational parks. It's nice to live in a city that (though at times foot dragging) aims at granting space for water, parks, and open spaces. Especially the old cemeteries, I find full of atmosphere and beauty. Especially Vestre Kirkegård and Assistens Kirkegård are of great importance to me and to my idea of what forms Copenhagen as well: Tranquility, something old, nature, city life, and culture all blended."
