Practise everyday English intensively twice a week
If you would like to improve your English fast, we recommend one of our intensive courses. You can quickly broaden your vocabulary and improve your spoken English significantly. On this intensive course, you will become more fluent when speaking to friends and work colleagues.

This could be when having more in-depth conversations about:

  • Trends

  • Past experiences

  • What makes us happy

  • Crime

  • Working conditions

You will also learn language that will help you handle practical everyday situations such as asking for and giving opinions, comparing and recommending, giving a talk, agreeing and disagreeing or making enquiries.

The primary focus is that you become better at speaking English, but you will also be given some short written assignments for homework. Most lessons will also involve studying some grammar to give you a framework on which to build the language and to minimise mistakes.

The course focuses on all the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary.

As we will be meeting twice a week and there will also be homework, you will be practising your English nearly every day, which means you will get into a totally different rhythm than if you had only been going to English classes once per week. On the course, you will typically meet students who need to improve their English because they have recently got a new job, or students who need to improve their English quickly so they can perform well in their current job.

Preparation time: approx. 1-2 hours.

Teaching material
Navigate Intermediate B1+ Coursebook with DVD and Oxford Online Skills (Oxford University Press), ISBN 9780194566629
We will study selected pages. You should buy the book before the start of the course. You can either buy the book online at www.academicbooks.dk or at their shop:
Academic Books
Øster Farimagsgade 5 A
1353 København K
The book includes access to an online skills programme and CD for self-study outside the classroom. In addition, the book can be projected onto the whiteboard so you and the other students will typically follow the teaching there as well as looking in your own book.

The Moodle learning platform
Moodle is Studieskolen's online course platform, which we use for all our courses. You will be given personal access to your course Moodle page, where you can:

  • Find your course plan and teaching material

  • Find homework

  • Watch videos and click on links to useful English resources on the Internet uploaded by your teacher

  • Find practical information about each lesson

  • Communicate with your teacher and fellow students

  • Follow the teaching and catch up if you are ill or absent during the course

Shellie Hansen

Shellie Hansen is a CELTA and TESOL qualified teacher and holds an MA in counseling psychology. She started teaching English to children in the Philippines, but in 2003 moved back home to Australia, where she began teaching adults. She also lived in the US for 7 years and in the UK for 2, which is why her accent changes every now and then. She is now happily settled in Denmark with her Danish husband and children. She also works with both children and adults in Copenhagen. What Shellie likes about teaching is meeting people from all over the world, and learning about their cultures while helping them reach their language goals.

Shellie recommends
Food and drink: In Sydney – have breakfast or brunch at one of the many outdoor cafés and have lunch at an Asian food court in Chinatown.
Learning tips: Read as much as you can from menus to magazines, watch films and online TED talks. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes – just speak, speak, speak!!
Places to visit: Bondi Beach cliff walk in Sydney, scuba diving in the Philippines and get lost in the energy of New York City.
Literature: Shellie reads anything and everything. What she’s reading now; The Traveller trilogy by John Twelve Hawks & Wonderland by Haruki Murakami.
