Merike Jürna

We have asked our teachers to recommend a place, some Danish music or a piece of Danish music. This is what Merike recommends.

Do you have a favourite place in or around Copenhagen?
"I love Danish architecture. All kinds, but especially the modern. For example, I like to take the metro or bike out to Ørestad and just walk around and look at the buildings.
Or take a guided tour with DAC, the Danish Architecture Center, and learn more about the thinking, the aesthetics, the materials and the social aspect of designing a building, a square or an entire district.
Karen Blixens Plads at the University of Copenhagen's Søndre Campus in Amager is, to me, a very beautiful and successful combination of the practical and the cosy - a hilly urban landscape has been created with space for both bicycles and socialising, and in a neat way."

Do you have a tip for Danish music?
"If you need to get in a good mood, watch, for example (yes, watch!, while you listen) how Malte Ebert performs for Queen Margrethe with his song "Kalde Dem for Du" for her 50th jubilee. It is beautiful and funny all at once, balancing on the line between good and bad taste, but not stepping a millimeter off to the side. Elegant entertainment. You can click here to watch it."
