Indfødsretsprøven is a written test about Danish society, culture and history.

Indfødsretsprøven is a written test about Danish society, culture and history. If you want to become a Danish citizen, you must pass this test. It takes place twice a year (summer and winter).

Indfødsretsprøven consists of 45 written questions about Danish society, Danish culture and Danish history. 35 of the questions are based on the study material.

There are also 5 current questions that are based on coverage in Danish news media of Danish social conditions, politics and cultural events. The current questions cover events that have been of special interest to Danish news media at some point during the six months leading up to the test.

Finally, there are 5 unprepared questions about Danish values. These questions are made to test whether people applying for Danish citizenship have taken Danish values to heart.

In order to pass the test, you must have 36 correct answers, and 4 of the correct answers must be from the unprepared questions.

When you register for the test at Studieskolen, the test is held in Copenhagen.
If you don't live in Copenhagen, you can register for the test at a school near you. See the list of schools here.


IMPORTANT! You must show photo ID

You must show valid photo ID at the test.

Valid forms of identification are:

1. Residence card (’opholdskort’), alien’s passport (’fremmedpas’) or convention passport (’konventionspas’) issued by a public authority in Denmark.

2. Passport or identity card (national identity card approved for entry into Denmark) issued by a public authority in another EU/EEA member country or in Switzerland.

3. Passport issued by a public authority in another country than those mentioned above in which a residence sticker has been inserted.

If you do not have one of the mentioned forms of identification, you can ask The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) for permission to use another type of identification at the test.

Dispensation to take the test under special conditions

The exam is generally conducted without the use of aids. If you suffer from a physical or mental disability or similar condition (e.g., if you are blind or dyslexic), you can apply for permission to take the exam with special aids or under special conditions. This could be in the form of a technical aid, an assistant, extended time, or similar.

You must register for the test before you can apply for dispensation.

You apply for an exemption by sending an email to info@studieskolen.dk. Attach documentation of the disability (dyslexia test or medical certificate). You must send your application as soon as possible and no later than 6 May.


Test fee

The test costs 946 DKK.


Your result

You will be notified by email whether you have passed Indfødsretsprøven.


Refund policy

  • If you cancel your registration before registration deadline: we will refund 100 % of the exam fee. We will deduct an administrative fee DKK 100.
  • If you cancel your registration after registration deadline and no later than two weeks before the test: we will refund 50 % of the exam fee.
  • If you cancel your registration later than two weeks before the test: We are not able to refund the exam fee.

Indfødsretsprøven will be held again on 25 November 2026.
