Do you have any favourite activities in Copenhagen and the surrounding area?
"Three things I particularly enjoy are hiking in nature, meditating, singing and dancing. Here are three recommendations for doing these activities in and around Copenhagen:
- Hiking: One walk I am particularly fond of is the trail around Furesø Lake. You can take the train to either Farum Station or Holte Station and start from there. The full route is 21 km, but you can shorten it, for example, by walking only from Farum to Holte. Here is a link to a detailed route description from Frie Fodspor.
- Meditating and singing: Every other Sunday from 19 to 22, there is free Taizé singing in Vor Frue Kirke (the cathedral). Taizé singing involves meditative chants originating from a monastic community in the French town of Taizé. On Sunday evenings, you can join a choir that sings these chants in four-part harmony. No prior experience is needed, and you can simply drop in from the street. There are breaks where you can sit quietly to meditate or pray, depending on your preference.
- Dancing: I enjoy free dancing in beautiful surroundings. Every Friday morning from 9 to 10 am, there is outdoor dancing at Ofelia Plads, a pier in the harbour located between Amalienborg Palace and The Royal Danish Playhouse (Skuespilhuset). Often, more than 100 participants from around the world join, and the common language is English. Afterwards, people usually gather for a cosy chat at a nearby café - a lovely way to start the day!"
