Terms for payment of deposit

Your municipality might ask you to pay a deposit of 2000 DKK before you can start your Danish class. If you stick to the time frame for deposit reimbursement, you can get your deposit paid back.

You cannot get your deposit paid back and you cannot change language centre until you have finished a module.

The rules for deposit payment and reimbursement are regulated by law (Bekendtgørelse af lov om danskuddannelse til voksne udlændinge m.fl.). Your deposit belongs to your municipality until you have passed the module test within the allocated time frame.

  • It is up to your municipality to decide if you must pay a deposit.

    • Marriage to a person with residence and work permit through employment
    • Enrolment as a student

    • Family reunification under Danish law
    • Employment as an au pair without EU citizenship
    • Refugee status on 'forsørgelse' or 'integrationskontrakt'

  • You can have your deposit reimbursed if you pass the module within the allocated time frame.

    Module 2 - 6 months

  • At Studieskolen, you have the option to complete your modules at different speeds.

Modules 1-3 take 6 to 12 weeks depending on how many days you attend classes and how fast you wish to complete them.

Modules 4-6 can be completed after 12-20 weeks depending on your Danish Education programme and how much time you invest in classes and homework.

At your interview, you can talk to our language consultant about your needs and wishes.

You cannot change language centre until you have finished a module.

  • You have to pay your deposit before you start each module.
If you have passed a previous module within the allocated time frame, Studieskolen can transfer your deposit from one module to the next.

You can pay your deposit by card, via MobilePay or with cash.
  • If you have passed your module within the time frame and are not starting a new module, you can contact Studieskolen and ask for a reimbursement of your deposit.
  • Unfortunately, no. It is not possible to get an extension of the time frame for deposit reimbursement.

The municipality does not offer the option to extend the time frame. Not even if you get sick, if members of your family get sick, if you become pregnant or are on parental leave. You can't get an extension for private or business travel either.
  • The Danish Education deposit is the sum of 2000 DKK that you must pay before you can start a module in one of the three Danish Education programmes.
You pay the deposit to Studieskolen, but it belongs to your municipality.
The deposit is not payment for Danish classes.
