Do you have a Kurdish background? Or perhaps you have a partner, colleague or friend who speaks Kurdish? On our course, you will quickly learn to hold simple conversations in Kurdish. We teach Kurmanji – Northern Kurdish – which is spoken by more than 15 million people.
You learn to speak, understand and read Kurdish
Kurmanji (also known as Kurmancî) is the largest of the Kurdish languages. It is spoken by more than half of all Kurds across the predominantly Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria (often referred to unofficially as “Kurdistan”). In Copenhagen and the rest of Denmark, many people with Kurdish roots also speak Northern Kurdish – in fact, it is one of the largest immigrant languages in the country.
Kurdish is an Indo-European language, related to Persian and Pashto. The grammar is easy to learn, and language uses a special version of the Latin alphabet, which you will quickly become familiar with.
In our course, you learn the expressions you need when speaking with family or friends. You also learn to read and write Kurdish, making the course ideal even if you already speak a little but cannot yet write the language.
You need to speak Danish to attend this course, as the classes and the teaching materials are in Danish.
