"The David Collection is by far my favourite museum in Copenhagen. Perhaps it is the combination of a private home and David’s impeccable taste that creates such an intimate atmosphere. In the textile room, you can have truly special sensory experiences by opening the drawers and seeing colours and weaving techniques in such extraordinary detail that it is almost impossible to describe. We are allowed to get incredibly close to the work of hands that created beauty hundreds of years ago – beauty that is still right there for us to admire today."
What Danish books do you like?
"Danish literature holds many treasures. Suzanne Brøgger’s rebellious spirit on so many levels, Juliane Preisler’s range and Ida Jessen, who not only writes some of the most accomplished Danish prose but also brings great psychological depth to her work. Among newer Danish authors, Jonas Eika is particularly interesting, Caroline Albertine Minor for her melancholic short story collections, and finally I can recommend Amalie Laulund Trudsø’s ‘Koordinater’, which is based on the geography of Copenhagen. The young protagonist connects different places in the city with events in her life. The language is quite accessible – a good place to get started. The work is short, the chapters are manageable and the sentences are simple."
