Do you have a favourite spot in Copenhagen?
"I have roots in both the Faroe Islands and France, so I grew up surrounded by influences from different languages and cultures, and with Danish spoken in countless variations. Perhaps that’s why I find so much joy in trying to understand my own and others’ cultures, and in being part of multicultural environments - like Nørrebro, where I live right in the heart of it.
I can really recommend spending a day in Nørrebro, which was once named the ‘coolest’ neighbourhood in the world. Take a stroll along Ryesgade and Ravnsborggade, and stop to chat with local shop owners - for instance, Solfinn, who runs a natural wine shop. He’s Faroese and great at sharing stories from the village where he grew up, as well as about the wines he now sells. Personally, I love his accent - it makes me feel at home.
Continue down along The Lakes, with views of the city’s beautiful spires, swans and ducks drifting by, and the sky reflected in the water’s surface. I would personally recommend all the places where culture and nature meet in and around Copenhagen. The Royal Library Garden, right next to Christiansborg, is a hidden gem that you’ll often have all to yourself. At its centre is a water sculpture that springs to life with cascades every hour - a monument to the written word. The garden is just one of many places in Copenhagen that invite quiet reflection and daydreaming."
Could you also recommend some places north of Copenhagen?
"If you’re heading north, I’d suggest Frilandsmuseet (the Open-Air Museum) in Lyngby - a vast natural space with historic houses from Denmark, Skåne (Scania) and the Faroe Islands, spanning the past 350 years. It’s a place where you can quite literally touch and smell history - life as it has been, in both its joys and hardships.
A bit further north, there’s Dyrehaven - an ancient forest and gently rolling hills, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and once a royal hunting ground.
Further still, you’ll find Louisiana - a spectacular museum where art, architecture and landscape merge into one. It’s one of the world’s most beautiful museums, capable of uplifting the spirit and brimming with inspiration for life in the most elegant way."
