The whispers of history and Spanish taboosWe delve deeper into the Spanish language, exploring vocabulary, grammar and the history of the Spanish-speaking world. Among other things, we examine the development of the city founded by the Aztecs 700 years ago into what is now known as Mexico City. We will also touch upon Spanish colonisation in Latin America and explore Al-Ándalus and the significant mark the Arabs left on Spain over a period of almost 800 years.
In addition to the fascinating history itself, this historical overview also provides an ideal framework for practising the past tenses pretérito imperfecto and pretérito indefinido, as well as teaching you how to say historical dates in Spanish.
Furthermore, you will practise to
- talk about your own childhood
- describe your work, your leisure time and the trips you have been on
- give instructions and advice
- invite someone to dinner
- politely decline an invitation
Now that we have come this far in both the language and Spanish culture, you are ready to delve deeper into Spanish taboos, hidden cultural norms and the differences between Danes and Spaniards. Among other things, we will look at how people physically greet one another in the south, and how a greeting differs depending on whether you are meeting a man or a woman. And speaking of gender roles, we will also look at Spanish family patterns.
