Local politics affects your daily life - from school and work to climate and urban development. With local elections taking place on 18 November 2025, we have planned a pre-election event on 6 November where you can gain insight into Danish democracy, meet political candidates face to face, and ask your own questions.

Why join – even if you don’t have the right to vote?

Many foreigners are entitled to vote in the local elections. But even if you cannot vote on 18 November, local politics still plays a major role in your everyday life in Denmark. This is where decisions are made about everything from childcare and schools to urban planning, transport, the environment and integration.
In short: Even without a vote, you can still make your voice heard, better understand the society you are part of - and engage directly with politicians.

Programme

1. Introduction to Danish democracy and the voting process
We begin with an introduction to how democracy works in Denmark and how elections are carried out.

2. Debate with political parties
We have invited politicians from across the political spectrum in Copenhagen - from right to left. The candidates will present and debate their views on everyday issues such as:

• integration
• job centres and employment
• climate and environment
• childcare and schools
• inclusion in the labour market

3. Q&A session
After the debate, you will have the chance to put your own questions directly to the candidates.

The entire event will be held in English.

This event is designed for foreigners living in Denmark – whether you have the right to vote in the local elections or not.
