Visit The David CollectionJoin us for a fascinating guided tour exploring the world of Middle Eastern miniature painting.

The David Collection is one of Copenhagen's hidden gems and is also considered one of the world's leading museums of Islamic art. The museum was originally the private home of lawyer and minister C.L. David, who wished for his home and collection to be transformed into a foundation that would make his remarkable collection freely accessible to the public.

C.L. David himself was a fascinating and complex figure. He came from a Jewish family that had converted to Christianity, he collected Islamic art with great passion, and he later founded what would become the global cleaning services company ISS.

Studieskolen's tours and excursionsGuided tours, city walks and cultural experiences are a cosy and informal way to explore your city. You learn new words and expressions as you move through the streets and discover new places. There will also be plenty of time to meet other students and practise your Danish.

Practical informationThe tour will be led by an expert in Islamic art and will be conducted in English.

Please note that you are not allowed to bring large bags, food and drinks into the exhibition. You can leave them in the museum's cloakroom. Depending on the number of participants, our group may be divided into two smaller groups.

This event is for our Danish language students. It is free of charge, but registration is required.

Malene recommends:
Can you recommend a museum in Copenhagen?
"The David Collection is by far my favourite museum in Copenhagen. Perhaps it is the combination of a private home and David’s impeccable taste that creates such an intimate atmosphere. In the textile room, you can have truly special sensory experiences by opening the drawers and seeing colours and weaving techniques in such extraordinary detail that it is almost impossible to describe. We are allowed to get incredibly close to the work of hands that created beauty hundreds of years ago – beauty that is still right there for us to admire today."

What Danish books do you like?
"Danish literature holds many treasures. Suzanne Brøgger’s rebellious spirit on so many levels, Juliane Preisler’s range and Ida Jessen, who not only writes some of the most accomplished Danish prose but also brings great psychological depth to her work. Among newer Danish authors, Jonas Eika is particularly interesting, Caroline Albertine Minor for her melancholic short story collections, and finally I can recommend Amalie Laulund Trudsø’s ‘Koordinater’, which is based on the geography of Copenhagen. The young protagonist connects different places in the city with events in her life. The language is quite accessible – a good place to get started. The work is short, the chapters are manageable and the sentences are simple."
