Studieskolen wins contract to provide language support for social and healthcare students in Copenhagen

March 27, 2025

Studieskolen will continue to provide language support for social and healthcare (SOSU) students in the City of Copenhagen for the next four years.
We’re proud to have won the first public tender for this task – with an outstanding score of 7.86 out of 8 for quality.

Studieskolen will continue to provide language support for social and healthcare (SOSU) students in the City of Copenhagen – until 30 April 2029.

Since 2021, Studieskolen has worked in close partnership with the City of Copenhagen to offer language support to SOSU students who speak Danish as a second language. During this time, we’ve built a strong and specialised department, and we’re proud that our efforts have now been recognised:
In the first public tender for the task in 2025, we were awarded the contract – with an impressive score of 7.86 out of 8 for quality.

We’re proud – and genuinely delighted – to continue this important mission.

A meaningful task – with real impact

Many SOSU students do not have Danish as their first language, which can make their studies more challenging. Some may struggle with healthcare terminology or with feeling confident when communicating with residents or colleagues. Language support helps these students strengthen their Danish skills – including written documentation – and feel more secure and well-prepared.

But language support is about more than just language. It’s about people. It’s about making sure capable students complete their education and step into one of society’s most important roles.

SOSU helpers and assistants are vital to our welfare system. They provide care, dignity and daily support to elderly and vulnerable citizens – whether at home, in care centres or in hospitals. Their work holds everyday life together for so many people.

That’s why it’s essential to give students the best possible tools to succeed in their training and in their future roles.

And the results speak for themselves. A 2023 evaluation showed that 37% of SOSU students without language support did not complete their training - while only 7.5% of those who received Studieskolen’s support dropped out. That’s a remarkable difference, and clear proof that the support works.

More motivated students and stronger skills

Success isn’t just about getting through the programme – it’s also about feeling confident and growing along the way.

In the spring of 2025, we asked all SOSU students receiving language support how they felt about the experience. The results were clear:

  • 4.6 out of 5 students were very satisfied with the language support
  • 4.74 out of 5 students said they would recommend the language support to their classmates

Students especially appreciated the focus on Danish pronunciation, saying they felt more clearly understood by both citizens and colleagues. They also reported feeling more confident with healthcare vocabulary and everyday Danish, making them better equipped to communicate effectively and deliver high-quality care.

Looking ahead

We know that language support makes a real difference – not just for each student, but for society as a whole.

We’re excited to keep moving forward over the next four years, continuing to improve and develop our work so even more SOSU students can succeed in their training and build meaningful futures in this essential profession.
