The job interview – this is how you succeed!

Learn about all the phases of a job interview as well as the challenges and cultural misunderstandings you might run into. This course prepares you to complete a job interview that leads to success.

Two women talking
If you have already tried a job interview in Denmark, you might have wondered about some things and perhaps also about how the interview was conducted. Perhaps you have experienced that the interview was very informal, maybe even jovial, or perhaps you have experienced that there was seemingly no structure to the interview, leaving you confused.
If you have yet to try your first job interview in Denmark, this course is also for you. We cover all phases of the interview and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and rehearse various situations.
A job interview is you being in a ”live” dialogue with a potential employer. It’s important that you are well-prepared and that you know the aspects of Danish culture that are relevant in a job interview.

What do you learn on this course?

On this course, we will take you through the different phases of a job interview, and we will pay extra attention to the challenges and misunderstandings that different cultures can present. We talk about how you can handle these in a Danish cultural context. Our main focus is to prepare you to complete a job interview with success.

The three phases of a job interview

We go through the three phases of a job interview: before, during and after the interview. You will get concrete tools for handling certain questions and situations that you can expect to occur, and you will get your own questions answered.

1. Before the interview
How to prepare for an interview – mentally and practically. This covers everything from being at your best mentally through the right clothes to wear to your salary demands. And not least, you will get to practise making a preparation sheet (one piece of A4 paper) to support you through the entire interview.

2. During the interview
What happens during the interview, and how do you handle different questions and situations in the best way? We go through different questions you might be asked during the interview. We practise different ways to answer and we focus on questions you might ask a potential employer that will make you come across as interested, motivated and intelligent. We also practise how you can best present yourself when the interviewer asks the question, “Tell me a bit about yourself”.

3. After the interview
What happens after the interview – especially if you didn’t get the job? How do you follow up and find out how to do even better at your next interview? And how do you speak to the potential employer about any other opportunities within their organisation?
All this will be answered in the course, and the more you actively engage by asking questions and sharing your own experiences, the more you will gain from the course.

How is the class conducted?

The class takes place as an interaction between

  • Important knowledge that makes you able to prepare for a job interview in a Danish context
  • Exercises in which you – alone and in small groups – practise and discuss different ways to handle questions and situations

Your teacher facilitates all exercises. The exercises take place in small groups in which you inspire each other. After each exercise, there will be feedback across groups.
The course is conducted in English.

It takes place:
