They all study English at one of Studieskolen’s special intensive courses. And they all agree that it is helping them to a better life in Denmark:
- Since they all spoke some English to begin with, they quickly got better at English
- Getting better at English can be a great first step in Denmark – it helps you to better communicate, find friends, get a job – and even learn Danish, since beginners’ courses in Danish use a lot of English, too
“A great way to meet other people in the same situation”
Tala, Gülizar and Raffaella also all appreciate the social aspect of the classes. Since the courses are intensive, the people on them tend to be people who have moved to Denmark recently and do not yet have a job – but want to find one.
Tala: “I got a lot of help with things that you have to deal with as a newcomer – finding a home, insurance and things like that. You can really help each other.”
The students in each class they have made a WhatsApp group, and they use it to get together with their fellow students outside of class to enjoy a cup of coffee, a picnic or just to talk.
Gülizar: “We will get together even after we finish the course. Some of these people will be my good friends in the future.”
Below you can read more of what Tala, Gülizar and Raffaella each have to say about their experiences.
Tala: “Finally, I can structure all the English I already know and really use it”
“I am an artist and a teacher from Iran. When I want to learn something new, I always figure out my own way to do it – I am not a good student!
But when I moved here with my husband 2,5 months ago, I found that I needed something more for my English. I have been learning English for many years, but I was not good at actually using it.
So, I decided to start an English class, and it really helped me organise the grammar and knowledge of English I already had.
I emailed the Head of Studieskolen’s English Department, Tara, to ask what the right course was for me.
She suggested that I try a lesson at level B2. I could speak a lot in that class, but I could not follow the grammar, a problem I have always had. So, I decided to switch to level B1, and it has been really good for me. I like the class and my teacher, and I can finally structure the grammar that has always been scattered in my mind.
I really appreciate all the help I got finding the right course. And I love Studieskolen. It is right in the centre of Copenhagen. When I ride to school in the mornings, I pass by the canals. It is really pleasant.”
Raffaella: “The method really makes you improve your English”
“I am originally from Italy, but I have lived in several countries with my husband and children. We first came to Denmark 10 years ago, but we have also lived in other places since then.
I started to learn Danish, but it was complicated for me. A lot of the explanations were in English, and it was hard for me to follow.
So, I decided to get better at English first, because people speak it a lot here, and my daughter goes to an international school. I was not fluent in English and I wanted to be.
I heard from other friends who studied at Studieskolen, so I decided to come here too. I am very happy with it, and I am very happy with my teacher. The teachers at Studieskolen are really good – well-prepared and professional.
Their method lets you understand and learn in a way that really improves your English. They do not just tell you the meaning of a word. Instead, they make you understand it in different situations. That way you remember it forever.”
Gülizar: “My friends said I would be happy with it. And I am happy!”
“I am from Türkiye. I moved here 7 months ago after marrying my husband – he had already lived in Denmark for a while.
I really want to work here. I am a lawyer, so I want to work here as a lawyer. But first I need to improve my English. I studied it in high school but I could not form any sentences, and I was very shy about speaking English.
I found Studieskolen on Google and asked some friends about it. They said it was a good course and that I would be happy with it. And I am happy!
I took the language test on Studieskolen’s website to find my level, and then I emailed the Head of the English Department, Tara, for her advice. I was pleased with the website and Tara’s help, it was a good interaction, I ended up in the right class and I really like my teacher!
I like that the course is intensive. Right now, I do not work, so I have time to concentrate on it, practise what you did in the class and keep it in mind. Because I go often, I do not forget what I have learnt.
This course is for everybody who wants to learn English in a short time. And it is not that intensive – you have time to do other things too!”
