Listen to the Nightingale – and Learn Danish in Nature Enjoy a unique experience in nature with bird expert Hans Ægidius. We’ll meet at DR Byen metro station and head out to Amager Fælled to listen to the birds singing.

We’ll walk around the lake, taking in the sounds of the birds – especially the impressive nightingales – and observe the birds on the water. If time allows, we will also have a look at some of the orchids that bloom on the common at this time of year.

When you hear the birds’ names and descriptions in Danish, the language becomes more vivid and easier to remember. You’ll learn new words while experiencing nature and chatting with other participants. We’ll mainly speak Danish, but there will be occasional English translations so everyone can join in.

Please dress according to the weather. In case of heavy rain, you’ll receive a text message with a cancellation

Studieskolen’s Guided Tours and Excursions This tour is a cosy and informal way to learn Danish. You’ll get fresh air, experience nature and learn new words in an authentic context. It is also a great opportunity to meet other students and talk about what you see and hear.

It takes place:
Thursday 21 May 2026 from 20:00 to 22:00
Meeting point: Amager Fælled - at the Metro Station DR Byen, Ørestads Boulevard exit

Who can join? All students enrolled in Studieskolen’s Danish courses are welcome. Participation is free, but you need to register in advance.

Hans Ægidius

Hans recommends:
Are there one or more places you can recommend visiting in or outside Copenhagen?

"Apart from being a lovely city, Copenhagen has the advantage of also having beautiful landscapes and attractive nature nearby. We are not talking about true wilderness, but even less can be quite enjoyable.

If you are up for an hour or two of transport – by car or by train and bus – it is worth taking a trip to Møns or Stevns Klint, or to the peninsula Røsnæs in West Zealand, or perhaps even across the Øresund to Skåne, where for example Kullens cliffs and Fyledalen are great excursion destinations.

You can also take a pleasant bike ride along Strandvejen and have a picnic in Dyrehaven north of the city.

My own preferred cycling destination is Kalvebod Fælled, a large, flat area on the western part of Amager, which was reclaimed during World War II and was for many years a closed military area. Now, apart from a bird reserve, it is open to everyone, and there is a fine network of paths for both cyclists and pedestrians. Especially in spring and autumn, there are many birds on the meadows, not least tens of thousands of ubiquitous barnacle geese.
Kalvebod Fælled also offers something as rare in Denmark as two self-sown birch forests, which are largely left to their own devices and have gradually reached a considerable height with a real primeval forest atmosphere.

I have bought an electric bike myself, so I can easily and at least once a week get out to the Fælled and follow the changing seasons. If I have just half an hour to spare, I like to take a trip to Frederiksberg Have."
