"Languages open your mind"

November 10, 2023

Languages are it for our work experience student Mathias. He is currently learning four different languages and would like to learn more - and to teach them someday.

When Mathias had to decide where to do his work experience, one thing was his main focus. He wanted to do something related to languages.

Mathias is passionate about languages. So passionate that he chose his current school because it offered him the rare option to learn Spanish from Year 7.

"I like learning about other cultures, and culture is language. Languages are also fantastic if you want to get to know new people and understand different ways of thinking."

He already knew about Studieskolen through online videos and quizzes about languages. And at a family gathering, the conversation turned to Studieskolen and the idea of doing his work experience here.

This week, Mathias takes the train from Ringsted to Copenhagen every day to get an insight into the life of a language teacher at Studieskolen. And he enjoys it.

"It has been really interesting to participate in the various language lessons, especially Danish, where I've been a sort of assistant teacher. It's fun after so many years as a pupil!"

From next week, the 15-year-old will continue life as a school pupil. But one thing is certain: the future will involve a lot more languages.

"I'm learning English, German and Spanish at school, and I also attend classes in Japanese at the 'ungdomsskole' (after-school classes for teenagers). I think everyone in the world should learn two languages, preferably more. Languages open your mind."
