Course 1 is your introduction to Healthcare Danish. This course equips you with the linguistic tools needed to manage everyday situations as an employee in the healthcare sector. It serves as the first step in Studieskolen’s Healthcare Danish course series and is a necessary starting point if you wish to continue with the subsequent courses.  

During the course, we will build your vocabulary, ability to engage in dialogues, and understanding of key expressions used in healthcare work. From introducing yourself and discussing meals to talking about pain and symptoms, we focus on the topics most relevant to your work.  

Course content
Over 10 sessions, we will cover the following topics: 

• New at the workplace
  Learn how to introduce yourself, ask for help and inquire about tasks in a natural and professional manner. We practise dialogues and expressions that you can use directly in your daily work.
  
• Food and meals
  Gain the tools to talk with citizens about food and meals. Learn a wide range of words and phrases related to food and how to describe daily menus. You will also practise asking about appetite and explaining the importance of healthy eating.
• Body and pain
  Build your knowledge of terms related to the body and pain. Learn the names of body parts and how to communicate about discomfort. You will practise asking about a citizen’s well-being, describing pain and using the VAS scale to ask targeted questions.
• Instructions and guidance
  Practise giving clear and respectful instructions to citizens. We will work on language for dressing, transfers and providing daily guidance in practical situations.
• Toilet visits and personal care
  Learn to communicate about toilet visits and maintain a respectful dialogue about personal care. We will also cover vocabulary related to assistive devices. 
• Illnesses and symptoms 
  Explore a wide range of terms related to symptoms and practise asking about a citizen’s health and condition. We will discuss common Danish lifestyle diseases and you will learn to ask about habits and offer lifestyle advice. Focus will be on dementia, diabetes and COPD, including their associated symptoms.

Practical information  
The course lasts 10 weeks and includes 10 sessions, where you will practise language in realistic situations that reflect your daily work.

Gain the language tools needed to apply for and excel in jobs within the healthcare sector.
This course builds on Healthcare Danish courses 1 and 2 and is the final step in Studieskolen’s Healthcare Danish series. It is tailored for those ready to take the decisive step towards a healthcare career in Denmark. The course focuses on both job applications and communication in professional and patient-related situations.
You will learn how to write a professional CV and targeted application, as well as how to navigate job interviews with confidence. Additionally, we will enhance your ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with patients, colleagues, and employers.

What will you learn?
The course spans 10 sessions and is divided into the following themes:

The healthcare CV
Learn how to craft a CV that stands out and highlights your skills professionally.
Focus areas: How to write a Danish CV,  genre understanding: What characterises a healthcare CV? and layout and structure: How to make your CV clear and well-organised.

The job application
Master the art of writing applications that convince employers. We will explore both motivated applications and emails while analysing job postings.
Focus areas: Language use and fixed expressions. how to write an unsolicited application and how to analyse a job posting.
You will learn to write a professional application, craft a motivated email to employers and understand job posting requirements to tailor your application effectively.

The job interview
Gain confidence in job interviews through role-playing and practising realistic scenarios. We will work on body language, presentation skills and common interview questions.
Focus areas: How to present your professional and personal skills, body language/non-verbal communication and practising typical job interview questions.

Communication with your patient
Learn how to create reassuring and effective conversations with patients in any situation. We will focus on communication that calms, motivates and builds trust.
Focus areas: How to talk to a patient with dementia, how to calm and motivate patients using Danish and small talk and questions that foster a good dialogue. You will learn to express yourself clearly and empathetically, guide and motivate patients and build trust through relevant questions and small talk.

Advising and guiding your patient
Become skilled at advising patients about healthy lifestyles and treatments. We incorporate knowledge of the KRAM factors (Diet, Smoking, Alcohol, Exercise) and work with healthcare recommendations.
Focus areas: How to advise on health in Danish and how to convey complex topics simply. You will learn to give clear and practical recommendations and explain health advice in an easy-to-understand way.

Practical information  
The course lasts 10 weeks, with one session per week. The lessons are practice-oriented and focus on realistic scenarios from your daily life as a healthcare professional.
