Katja Rehfeldt

Katja recommends:
Do you have a favourite place in Copenhagen?

"I would like to recommend several places, partly because of the nature, but also because of the social environment there.

I often visit Søndermarken in Vesterbro, both for walks and sledging, but also when there are festivals, such as the the Bloom festival, which takes place every May. It is a scientific festival, free of charge, and attended by all kinds of people. You can also volunteer for the festival and build a large network.

Another place where you can volunteer and meet both foreigners and Danes is at the venue Alice. There are concerts with fantastic bands from all over the world, and people who come to the venue interact with each other, including the volunteers.

A final place, which is beautiful and where people talk to each other across various groups, is at Kahyt og Kaffe. Here, you have a sea view, can look at houseboats, enjoy good simple food, and also intimate concerts."

Hans Ægidius

Hans recommends:
Are there one or more places you can recommend visiting in or outside Copenhagen?

"Apart from being a lovely city, Copenhagen has the advantage of also having beautiful landscapes and attractive nature nearby. We are not talking about true wilderness, but even less can be quite enjoyable.

If you are up for an hour or two of transport – by car or by train and bus – it is worth taking a trip to Møns or Stevns Klint, or to the peninsula Røsnæs in West Zealand, or perhaps even across the Øresund to Skåne, where for example Kullens cliffs and Fyledalen are great excursion destinations.

You can also take a pleasant bike ride along Strandvejen and have a picnic in Dyrehaven north of the city.

My own preferred cycling destination is Kalvebod Fælled, a large, flat area on the western part of Amager, which was reclaimed during World War II and was for many years a closed military area. Now, apart from a bird reserve, it is open to everyone, and there is a fine network of paths for both cyclists and pedestrians. Especially in spring and autumn, there are many birds on the meadows, not least tens of thousands of ubiquitous barnacle geese.
Kalvebod Fælled also offers something as rare in Denmark as two self-sown birch forests, which are largely left to their own devices and have gradually reached a considerable height with a real primeval forest atmosphere.

I have bought an electric bike myself, so I can easily and at least once a week get out to the Fælled and follow the changing seasons. If I have just half an hour to spare, I like to take a trip to Frederiksberg Have."
