Learn to read and speak RussianWould you like to learn Russian from scratch? Then this course is for you! You do not need to speak any Danish to join, as this class is taught in English. Soon you will be able to have simple conversations and read the Russian alphabet.
Talk about yourself in RussianMaybe you know that ‘spasibo’ means ‘thank you’, but that is about it. On this course, you will learn many more useful words and phrases. As always with our courses, our focus is on helping you start speaking the language fast. You will learn how to ask and answer simple questions and practise conversations about what you like to do in your spare time. You will also learn about Russian naming convention so you can address Russian speakers correctly.
You might also know that to read and write in Russian, you need to know the Cyrillic alphabet. On this course, you will learn the Russian letters and their pronunciation, and soon you will be able to read maps, use a dictionary and recognise loan words in Russian, such as ‘computer’ and ‘restaurant’. This will help you to quickly expand your vocabulary and your understanding of the way Russian sounds. It is also very helpful if you want to travel to one of the many countries that use Cyrillic script.
Basic grammar is important. You need to use grammar correctly to understand and be understood in Russian. We make it fun and interactive as you practise grammar through different exercises. Our classes are a mixture of classroom teaching, group work and pair work.
Overview of the course layout and materialYou will receive access to our online digital platform, Moodle. Moodle provides a comprehensive overview of the entire course. You will also be able to contact your classmates and discuss the activities taking place in your class.
On Moodle you can:
- see the plan for the course, the individual teaching sessions and homework

Practical informationWe will inform you about the teaching materials no later than 2 weeks before the course starts.
You are expected to spend approximately two hours a week on homework.
Many people speak Russian - both inside and outside of Russia. On this course, you will meet students who travel or plan to travel to countries where Russian is spoken. Some have Russian-speaking family, partners or colleagues. Others take an interest in language, culture and modern Russia and would like a nuanced understanding of Russia and the Russian Language.
The class consists of 10-16 students.
