Danish for beginners

You will very quickly learn to handle very simple situations in Danish like shopping and how to greet people.
You will first learn the absolute basics, such as:

  • Telling a little bit about yourself

  • Asking about others

  • Asking how someone is doing

  • Asking someone their name, where they live, and where they are from

  • Asking someone which languages they speak

You will also learn numbers, time expressions, and the names of weekdays and months.

It is critical that you acquire good Danish pronunciation, which is why we focus on it from the very beginning. We will practise how to pronounce the different sounds unique to Danish, and how the melody of a Danish sentence should sound.

Teaching materials developed at Studieskolen

The teaching material Danish to Go is a learning system which is developed by teachers at Studieskolen specifically for Studieskolen's students.
The material consists of two books - a textbook and an exercise book - which you will use in class, as well as a comprehensive online learning site with sound, video, practice exercises and online resources with grammar and vocabulary.
We will be working with the first couple of chapters.
The teaching materials are included in the course price.

The teacher will hand out the books in class, and you will automatically receive access to our online learning platform Moodle.

Classes take place at Studieskolen, Borgergade 12, 1st floor, KBH K.

Monday August 18 - Friday August 22.
Afternoons 1- 4pm
Except Wednesday August 20 where classes start at 12 am since you´ll here be invited to join a canal cruise with your teacher and classmates.

Camilla Syhler

Camilla recommends:

What is your favorite place in Copenhagen?

"I love communal dining in Folkehuset Absalon in Vesterbro. Absalon is an old church that was converted into a cultural and community centre in 2015. The founder is Lennart Lajboschitz, who is also the owner of the international store chain Tiger. I like Absalon because it's a good place to meet new people. In addition, there are many fun, creative activities in Absalon every week. In addition to communal dining, you can go to yoga, bingo, table tennis, concerts, films, lectures etc.

If you want to experience Copenhagen from above, I can also recommend visiting the Tower at Christiansborg. Here there is a really beautiful view of the whole city, and it is completely free to visit."

Who is your favorite Danish author?
"I am quite excited about the Greenlandic author Niviaq Korneliussen, who has written the novel Blomsterdalen, among other things. Niviaq's novels are exciting because they are about the relationship between Denmark and Greenland and the challenges many young Greenlanders face when they move to Denmark to study or work."
