”I am very fond of the part of Copenhagen named Østerbro. It’s light and airy and has lots of lovely spots, including one of Copenhagen’s biggest oases, Fælledparken. This is a place where people meet up and have a nice time, dancing, playing, running or having a party. Another one of my favourite spots on Østerbro is the small beach by Svanemøllen. I think it’s wonderful that we have water in the capital of Denmark that is clean enough to swim in.”
Do you have a favourite place outside of Copenhagen?
”Outside of Copenhagen is the northern part of the island of Mors, a place I used to live and still visit regularly. Here is a rare landscape, shaped by ancient volcanic eruptions. Later, during the ice age, the enormous powers of the ice folded the unique landscape into the formation called Hanklit. Here, you might be lucky enough to find the imprints of turtles, insects, fish and birds that lived 55 million years ago.”
Who’s your favourite Danish artist?
”Amongst others, it’s the Danish painter Vilhelm Lundstrøm (1893-1950), whose monumental paintings broke with norms and contributed to making a mark on his contemporaries and Danish modernism. I love Lundstrøm’s stark and stylized compositions and his use of bold colours.”
What’s your favourite music?
”I grew up with some of the greatest female Danish singers - Anne Linnet, Sanne Salomonsen and Anisette, who is the lead singer in The Savage Rose. Again and again, I am blown away by Anisette; her unique and powerful voice and her ability, in all her vulnerability, to fill some of the biggest stages. And always doing so with an important message about changing the world with peace and love.”
