How do you pronounce the d-sound?

The Danish d-sound can be a challenge. "D" is one of the more difficult letters because it can be pronounced in several ways and because one cannot always hear the d. Sometimes the pronunciation is "hard" (e.g. in 'dame'), and sometimes it is "soft" (e.g. in 'Nøddeknækkeren'). The d can also be "silent” and not pronounced at all (e.g. in 'mand').

In some words, you will not find a d when you spell the word. But there is a d-sound when you pronounce it! For example, there is no d in ‘livet’, but you pronounce it with a soft d at the end.
