Michael Sandager

We have asked our teachers to recommend a place, some Danish music or a Danish artist. This is what Michael recommends.

Who is your favourite Danish musician?
”One of my favourite musicians is Sebastian. He has always had a high standard within songwriting and musical arrangements. His career stretches more than 50 years, and he has written music within different genres (rock, pop and musicals). Sebastian sings his songs in Danish. One of my favourite albums is ’Stjerne til støv’ from 1981. It contains tracks such as ’Romeo’ and ’Stille før storm’. The latter was also the song that launhced Lis Sørensen’s solo career.”

What’s your favourite cultural location in Copenhagen?
”Aside from Operaen and Skuespilhuset, I would also like to mention Park Bio. It’s an old cinema on Østerbro, full of hygge and with its own unique atmosphere. The cinema only has 1 screen and plays specially selected films of good quality. The screen is large and the audio is good. Before the movie, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the cosy foyer on the first floor. If you are a student – or retired – you can get a discount on your ticket.”

How do you like to relax in Copenhagen?
”When I’m not playing tennis on B93’s court by Parken, I love to go for walks in Copenhagen. One of my favourite routes is through Kastellet to Langelinie Kaj. On that walk, I pass The Little Mermaid, Langelinie Lystbådehavn and the Gefion Fountain. At the end of Langeliniekajen, I buy a cup of coffee, eat an ice cream and enjoy the view over the water.”
