Get the basics right
This course is for you if you want to learn English from the very beginning and focus on getting the absolute basics right. The course focuses on the four skills you need when you are learning a language: speaking, listening, reading and writing so you will experience well-balanced progress.
After taking this course, you will be able to:
- Introduce yourself
- Talk about your job
- Talk about your day
- Ask people questions
You will also learn a lot of new words to do with, for example, jobs, family, transport, colour and clothes and learn how to pronounce the new words correctly.
The primary focus is that you become better at speaking English, but you will also be given short written assignments for homework, for example, writing an informal email. We will also study some basic grammar in each lesson to give you a framework on which to build the language.
We will study the first half (chapters 1 to 5) of the book, Navigate.
On the course, you will meet students who have previously learnt some basic English and would like to start over with the full beginner level. If you do not know any English, please contact us for an individual solution.
Teaching material
Navigate Beginner, Student's book, 2016 (Oxford University Press), ISBN 9780194566230. You can buy the book at Studieskolen's reception on the first day of the course. The book includes access to an online skills programme for self-study outside the classroom. In addition, the book can be projected onto the whiteboard so you and the other students will typically follow the teaching there as well as looking in your own book.
Overview of the course layout and material
You will receive access to our online digital platform, Moodle. Moodle provides a comprehensive overview of the entire course. You will also be able to contact your classmates and discuss the activities taking place in your class.
